Simple Ways You Can Modernize Your House without Renovation

Is your house looking run down and outdated because you haven’t had the time and money to invest in it? Well, the good news is, there are plenty of simple ways to modernize your house on a budget. You don’t need to go for a full-fledged renovation. Little details such as adding lighting fixtures and changing color schemes can go a long way in transforming the overall look and feel of your home. It’s also wise to invest in modern home automation products. They allow you to control household appliances and their functions conveniently.

When I moved to a new locality, I searched Vivint security packages and was surprised to find quality products at rather affordable prices. You could do that too. Trust me, they make life easy!

House upgrades and updates depend on the tastes and preferences of the people living in it. Having said that, here are some of the easiest, inexpensive, as well as fun ways to modernize your home.

#1. Change Switch Plates

Updating your electric switch plates is a rather simple way to give your home a fresh as well as cohesive look. At times, almond-colored switch plates tend to make the home feel dated. At other times, the plates get painted over and result in mismatching. So try changing/updating your switch plates and you’ll notice a remarkable difference in the overall look. If you think you don’t have the know-how to do this yourself, you could hire a licensed electrician to do the job. You could also search for video tutorials online that can guide you about the things to look for when choosing new outlets/switch plates.

#2. Update Door Handles & Drawer Pulls

Nothing dates your bathrooms and kitchen more than worn-out dirty knobs and handle pulls. And there is simply no excuse to not change them, especially when it is so simple to do so. You can find enormous variety in the market to choose from, ranging from shiny stainless to aged copper and from bronze to brushed nickel. It all boils down to your personal choice and what suits your home best. You could get a couple of different styles to check what works with the rest of the color theme. And really, there are no hard and fast rules to choosing cabinet knobs and pulls. If you have a traditional kitchen, you could go for modern stainless knobs and if you have a modern kitchen, you can make it look cool with vintage-style knobs (just a suggestion).

#3. Fresh Coat of Paint

Never underestimate the power of a fresh coat of paint. And no, you don’t need to hire a whole team to repaint your entire house. You can simply do it yourself. Unleash your creativity in different parts of the house. It is a low-cost way to upgrade the look of your house and you’ll learn to enjoy it rather than taking it on as a burden. And if you have the time to create a bigger impact, aim your paintbrush at high-traffic rooms like the bathroom and the kitchen.

#4. Add Easy to Install Wallpaper

Wallpapers are cheap, easy to install and have the ability to completely transform the look of your room. They are available in a great variety of graphics and patterns. The best part is, whenever you are in the mood for change, you can simply remove the wallpaper. Good-quality wallpapers are easy to peel off and won’t cause harm to the wall underneath. You can also reuse the wallpaper in another room/setting (if you haven’t ripped it of course).

To start with, consider installing wallpaper with a peaceful pattern on the main wall of your bedroom on a weekend. There are plenty of design options on both online and physical stores. But do your research well and buy from brands that are well-known and offer some kind of warranty.
