Car HDRs Volume 1

July 4th, 2011

So my friend just got her new Ford 2012 Mustang GT California Special (say that 5x fast…)… And because it’s brand spanking new, we had to take pictures! Now I’ve never really taken any pictures of cars before, so this was a real challenge to me. But I think the results came out pretty well. These are all HDR images, with about 3-5 EV taken for each image.

Oh and the blue Mustang is mine… she just turned 1 year old.

I’ll have another set soon. We just took some pictures with the cars together out on her parent’s land. There should be some sexy ones in there!

And now… the images!

HDR Before-Middle-After and Google+

June 30th, 2011

Sorry it’s been a while. Work again started getting in the way… But here I am!

Before/Middle/After – The Red Chair

A friend of mine the other day asked if I could show him what a Before, Middle, and After image looks like in my HDR workflow.

And for those that would like to know how I do this, in a nutshell is:

  1. Take 3 exposures –2 0 +2 EV
  2. Import, organize, clean up in Lightroom 3
  3. Export to Photomatix
  4. Tone Map in Photomatix and export out as a .tiff
  5. Import 3 exposures plus the tonemap .tiff into Photoshop
  6. Layer together, and put the tonemap on top.
  7. Using a layer mask, I paint back in any detail or light that I want in my image.
  8. Apply certain Photoshop filters for color, noise reduction, etc.
  9. Finish it all off with an Unsharp Mask, and save!

So here are the images:

Before:

Middle (tonemap):

After:

Pretty cool, eh?

I’ll try and show more of these as time goes on. Sadly, I normally delete the tonemap image after I’m done with it.

Google+

So a good friend of mine was able to get me into Google+. So if you’d like to follow me there, just type my name in. Or follow this link!

As you can guess, it’s been a busy week since I got back from Austin. But I have kept up with uploading photos! You might have notice if you’ve been following Flickr, Twitter, and/or DeviantArt. But now here are those photos for your enjoyment!

Till next time…

The Girl With The Sunglasses

June 6th, 2011

Another shot from my little getaway to Austin, Texas. This is a shot of my friend Lindsey Stump. As we were walking down 6th Street, we found this really cool painted red wall. The colors were so vibrant that we had to get some shots! She put on these really awesome sunglasses, and I let the shutter fly!

Weekend in Austin Texas

June 5th, 2011

So I decided to get away for the weekend, since I got the weekend off from work at the last minute. I stayed over at the wonderful “W Hotel”. And I must say, this hotel is amazing, and totally worth the price! I’ll be uploading photos from my little road trip over the next few weeks. But I’ll start with this one from one of the many lounges in the W Hotel.

I also meet up with my friend, and fellow photographer, Lindsey Stump! You can view some of her work here.

Old Memories

June 1st, 2011

I love finding old photo’s on my HDD.

I wasn’t able to sleep, so I did the next best thing… browse the hard drive! That can be a very dangerous thing, but in this case, it was a blessing! I found my old photo’s I took back with my D40 at the Houston Miniature Train Convention. I’m not sure if that’s even the correct name for it. My father and I took my grandfather for his birthday. Oh what I would give to take photo’s of my grandfather’s village he had built in his basement. Sadly, it had to get taken down due to the basement flooding. But I did however snag a few good ones from this convention! So keep an eye out for those. I plan on doing a series with them!

Memorial Day!

May 30th, 2011

Happy Memorial Day interweb!

It’s been a pretty nice long weekend, and I got a lot of work done! And not to mention, my sister graduated High School this weekend as well! So I hope you all had a great Memorial Day!

Oh and by the way… the Flickr site is back up and I’ve registered with “Pro” status for them! Not that really means anything, but at least I don’t have an upload limit. And now everything is updated, and re-uploaded, with metadata. I’ve also organized everything into sets, etc.

I also suggest everyone check out www.mostly365.com. This is a great site for uploading one photo a day via Twitter #Mostly365. If anything just bookmark it and check it everyday for some amazing stuff! I’ll be uploading my images of the day from now on. You’ll be able to follow those updates via twitter!

Updates, reloads, and metadata oh my!

May 29th, 2011

So since I’ve been really getting into photography more, I’ve been finding that file organization is key. So I’m in the process right now of re-organizing my photos. This way I can keep things organized for uploading across multiple sites better.

And I’ve also recently learned about getting copyright and personal info embedded into the jpg. So now I have to re-upload some, if not most of my images. Something that you guys probably won’t notice on the surface, but it will take some time on my end for sure. So you may notice that my photos on Flickr are gone at the moment. I’ll be re-uploading here very soon. I need to get new tags and info embedded into them. As for the DeviantArt, I can re-upload the image without taking it down. So those will stay up for the time being.

I was learning about this in an amazing video podcast with some of my favorite Photographers. A great listen about getting your photos and identity online.

I wasn’t able to upload the past few days due to me being at work till very late in the morning. So here are some photo’s to make up for it.

Insert Dog Growl Noise Here

May 25th, 2011

Not much to report on today… It was pretty long. Trying to decide what to shoot over the weekend… I’m thinking City Center here in Houston… It does sound tempting!

You got Deviant all in my Art!

May 24th, 2011

So as an extension of trying to get more of my work out into the internet… I have created an account over at DeviantArt! So you can find myself here, on Flickr, and on DA! I set up this portfolio for a few reasons, but the main one is I’m just trying to find more outlets to showcase the work. Also, I haven’t been to fond of flicker so far. I love the slideshow presentation there, and it’s uploading tools… But the feedback I’ve had on DA in the short amount of time I’ve been there has been 100x more than what I’ve gotten on Flickr. Flickr is still a great site, but I felt another outlet was needed. And you really can’t have your work in too many places, now can you? So you’ll now notice a DeviantArt button up top, but also feel free to click the links in the blog post. They’ll take you to the same place!

And I’m going to try and start uploading an image of the day. I’ve already started this on my FB page (personal), and the Deviant Art page.

So here’s today’s image “Dynamo Stomp!”
