HDR Before-Middle-After and Google+

June 30th, 2011

Sorry it’s been a while. Work again started getting in the way… But here I am!

Before/Middle/After – The Red Chair

A friend of mine the other day asked if I could show him what a Before, Middle, and After image looks like in my HDR workflow.

And for those that would like to know how I do this, in a nutshell is:

  1. Take 3 exposures –2 0 +2 EV
  2. Import, organize, clean up in Lightroom 3
  3. Export to Photomatix
  4. Tone Map in Photomatix and export out as a .tiff
  5. Import 3 exposures plus the tonemap .tiff into Photoshop
  6. Layer together, and put the tonemap on top.
  7. Using a layer mask, I paint back in any detail or light that I want in my image.
  8. Apply certain Photoshop filters for color, noise reduction, etc.
  9. Finish it all off with an Unsharp Mask, and save!

So here are the images:

Before:

Middle (tonemap):

After:

Pretty cool, eh?

I’ll try and show more of these as time goes on. Sadly, I normally delete the tonemap image after I’m done with it.

So a good friend of mine was able to get me into Google+. So if you’d like to follow me there, just type my name in. Or follow this link!
