Here is an image that started just as a little side project of trying out different lighting techniques in V-Ray. I started by just playing around with lights and colors, and evolved to what you see here. The building is a base mesh taken from the Evermotion 17 library. I’ve altered it some, and then gave it a local.
My goal was to achieve an almost night shot, where the lights of the building would help carve the building’s shape out of the night sky. I then decided to put part of it on water to have those lights reflected back into the scene. I chose to design a restaurant because I figured that would be the best setting to play around with some nice lighting, other than a house. This was made in 3ds Max 2010 with Vray 1.5. There was a lot of work done in post with Photoshop. Such as controlling the colors, reflection intensities, the stars, and building the city in the background. I hope you enjoy!

Here are two sketches I did today. I was trying out some new work flows in Photoshop.

Hey everyone!
I’ve been pretty busy at work lately on a project for Hess. They havn’t let me out much, so I havn’t had too much time lately to work on things. But you may have noticed that the Portfolio recently got an update! There are some images from a restaurant, called Valentio’s, that is located here in Houston. I have not been yet, but it is open for business. You can find it at the Hotel Derek at 610 and Westhimer. Also, I last posted a character sketch back in August, and I’m proud to finally present a value rendering of her finally. I hope you enjoy!

Here’s a quick preview of a new sketch I’m currently working on. This is just a small portion of it, with some quick values thrown down. The first character of many to come I hope! Now lets just see if my job lets me have enough free time to finish this in a reasonable amount of time!

So I finally go to finish the portrait of my friend. Here it is in all it’s color glory!

Here’s a quick update to the Charette #15 Render contest I’m working on. About to run out for dinner and wanted to get this up before I head out. The only note I have now is that the wood in the FG is a place holder, and will be changed.

Here’s a work-in-progress of a digital paiting that I’m currently working on. So far I want to say I’m about 8 hours in. This preview is just a small gray-scale version. The color version will be coming soon (currently working on it). It’s all done in Photoshop. I’ve only used a Hard Round and a Soft Edge Brush. The portrait is of my friend Frances. It’s for her 24th birthday.

So I’ve decided to work on a challenge over at http://www.3dallusions.com/.
The challenge is to render this house from 2 points of view, without changing the architecture. Everything else is fair game. So this is my first preview of my first POV. Pretty much my lighting is set, minus the interior light. The interior light colors are not final yet. Right now I just have omni lights illuminating to add color and value to the image. I do this so I kind of have a road map of where I’m going color and value wise. Next up will be adding more entourage, and then onto textures. I imagine a few more trees for the background, and then some kind of living space for the interior. Not too sure what I’ll be doing with the pool area yet. That’s still TBD.
Anyways, here’s the image:

So after two years I’ve finally reworked my website and here it is! The old site is still around, and I may archive it, but for now I’ve put up all my recent work from Gensler. My goal is to be updating the site regularly with content here in the blog section, and in the portfolio section. So check back often, you might find something helpful!
